A corporate battle is brewing and the casualty could the much anticipated “Watchmen” movie set for release in March 2009. Variety is reporting that 20th Century Fox is trying to prevent Warner Brothers from releasing the movie saying that 20th Century Fox owns the rights to the movie.
Both companies say they own the rights to the story of the comic book by Alan Moore and Dave is was directed by Zack Snyder who brought us “300″. As part of the dispute Warner Brothers tried to have Fox’s lawsuit dismissed, but a federal refused to see it Warner Brothers way. As part of the battle it may have come down to profit sharing between the two companies, but Fox would sooner see the project killed then making money.
If Fox wins this it will for sure a sad day for movies and especially comic adaptations made into films. It may be up to the paying public to save the movie and change Fox’s mind through emailing campaigns and boycotts. Let me know how you feel on this subject.
