During tough economic times, people cut out their usage of luxury items first, and focus on their essentials.
Take-out food, alcohol, going to restaurants… those are all items we do not need to survive, but enjoy immensely, but since they’re not needed for survival they tend to be cut out of budgets right away.
However, you don’t have to completely give up luxury items if you have a passion for them, and an example of this would be alcohol consumption. If you’re picky about the kind of beer or wine you drink, the make your own brew to start a hobby that will also cut these costs from your budget.
If you ever decide to get into homebrewing beer, wine or cider, the benefits are many. First of all, you will find yourself spending less time on other entertainment venues, which are also luxury items we can do without. Secondly, since you will be making your own homebrew beverages, your costs for these items are only in your time invested, and for the materials needed to make home brew. Thirdly, the combination of reducing your entertainment expenses while cutting out other luxury expenses has the desired double-effect so you’re burning the candle at both ends here.
During tough economic times, people revert back to their hardy and practical ways and this is one way that people are doing this now.If you don’t want to quit drinking alcohol, then making your own and sharing it with friends and neighbors will be a great solution for you. This is also a common occurrence during tough economic times: people establish informal bartering systems and start planting gardens, bringing fruits, vegetables, tomatoes etc.. over to their neighbors’ houses.Getting proficient at making your own brews at home will have the added benefit of you receiving free stuff from your neighbors in exchange for some gallons of your special home brews.
