Do you look around your office or your home and wonder how you will find the right artwork to adorn that wall? How much do i need to spend?  Will it match my décor colours when I hang it? And more importantly, will I love it always?

Sharron Tancred from Brisbane’s Works For Your House says that, ‘’Asset rich and time poor people are starting to buy smart and are getting their artwork tailored’’.Sharron is a graduate of Colour Psychology as well as an artist, designer, illustrator and interior decorator.  She knows from experience that due to demand, there is a definite movement towards tailored artwork.  “When people tailor their art they then gain ownership and control.Essentially, it becomes their own because they are involved in the production.  By being able to match colours perfectly and combine textures, themes or period styles to the work it becomes “their’’ piece of art, that is emotive and highly specific to their space.”

Value plays a big part in Sharron’s business philosophy.  “My clients receive complimentary appointments where I give interior decorating advice to compliment the final painting and I continue this with ideas during the job process.  The appointment also includes the sketching of ideas so clients can participate in direction and I arrange and pick up tailor made canvases for free too.I reward clients if they refer me, sometimes I reward clients with a personalised designer t-shirt with their artwork on it!  I use their child’s photo with their artworks for advertising imagery and publish their pictures and testimonials on the Works For Your House web site and let the client know about it.  They love it!’’

Sharron, mother of two young children herself, also creates fabulous art for kids, magically transforming a child’s nursery, bedroom, rumpus or TV area into a dream world …. a stylish space in the home which will encourage imaginative play by creating an environment they are happy to be in.  “These works for children’s spaces can include collage for added sparkle and dimension, appealing greatly to children. I’ve tailored paper cut art for Grandma’s Christmas present, to go with her hand made quilts in her grandchild’s child’s bedroom and a French styled Triptych for the teenage bedroom in a stylish riverside apartment.  The art can relate years beyond childhood too, if the style and subject is right.”

Commission Sharron for something totally unique, Little Pro Masterpieces are paintings created by the client’s children!  “This is a very unique idea.  It is stylish and memorable and creates fabulous birthday, christening, anniversary or Christmas gifts,” Sharon said.  ‘’I art direct children, in their own home, to paint designer styled canvases to not only match a room’s decor but which are worthy of hanging in boardrooms, the office or the formal lounge.Kids as young as 18 months can sit and paint passionately for hours!Older children can follow more detailed instructions and assist me in creating some amazing scenes.  I’ve had parents buy these sessions even as birthday gifts for their children for the experience of painting with a professional artist. Little Pro Masterpieces leave delighted parents thinking their child’s a genius.’’

Sharron alleged that “men in particular love this concept. They find it gives them thoughtful and practical gifts for their wives, parents or children.  For them there is a particular sense of satisfaction from being involved right from the initial concept through to completion and then the giving.”

While the tailored art trend has seen a large increase in private home commissions, of all demographics, Sharron stated that “interior designers are also excitedly adopting the idea.  The designer can request a set composition, incorporate a dash of accent colour, take the design from a cushion, use it in the painting and then add the cushion fabric as collage.  They can participate in designing pieces so individual and one-off, that the proposal is suitable for everyone from corporate offices to the private residence.”
