Spice World: A fantasy view of a few nights in the lives of the pop phenomenon The Flavor Gals and their presence with road agent Grant. Hoppity Goes to Town: Delightful excited characteristic in regards to occupants of worm-ville and their assorted complications living in a human world, and bullied by villainous C. Bagley Beetle. Excellent-looking however uncompelling tale. (77 minutes, 1941)

All about Eve: Brilliantly advanced (and skeptical) look at life in and around the show, with a mecca script by director Mankiewicz (based on the tale “The Knowledge of Eve” by Mary Orr). Davis is positively on point as an aging megastar that takes in a loving fan (Baxter) and eventually finds that the youthful lady is taking over her life. Cast includes Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, George Sanders, Celeste Holm, Gary Merrill, Thelma Ritter, Marilyn Monroe, Hugh Marlowe, and Gregory Ratoff. (138 minutes, 1950)

Play it as it Lays: Film rendition of Joan Didion’s best-seller in reference to the neglected spouse of a selfish film director is helped by Weld and Perkins. Cast includes Tuesday Weld, Anthony Perkins, Tammy Dirties, Adam Roarke, Ruth Ford, and Eddie Firestone. (100 minutes, 1984)

Macaroni: An uptight American businessman goes to Naples and finds some incomplete personal business left over from his last visit while he was an amorous cadet in the Second World War. 2 of the planet’s most charming entertainers try to keep this film together, and nearly triumph. Cast includes Jack Lemmon, Marcello Mastroianni, Daria Nicolodi, Isa Danieli, and Maria Luisa Saniella. (104 minutes, 1985)

Aladdin: Disney’s energized Arabian Days story is refined through the sensibility of an old Warner Bros. animation, as Aladdin summons up a Genie who’s exploding with shtick. Williams’ hilatious fast fire patter forms the centerpiece of this alternatively conventional tale, colorfully (and tunefully) shown. Cast includes Voices of Scott Weinger, Robin Williams, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman, Frank Welker, Gilbert Gottfried, Douglas Seale and the harmonizing voices of Brad Kaneand Lea Salonga. (90 minutes, 1992)

For Love of the Game: Likable film for Costner as a player with a twenty year baseball career who looks back on the last 5 years of his life throughout an eventful end of season game. Successfully played for megastar value and emotion, however goes into additional innings for no obvious rationale, extending out a summarization that comes as no astonishment. Cast includes Kevin Costner, Kelly Preston, John C. Reilly, Jena Malone, Brian Cox, J. K. Simmons, and Vin Scully. (137 minutes, 1999)

The Music Man: Peerless Preston reprises his Broadway role as a terrific sales associate con guy Prof. Harold Hil who captivates Iowa town with visions of uniformed marching band. Cast includes Robert Preston, Shirley Jones, Friend Hackett, Hermione Gingold, Paul Ford, Pert Kelton, and Ronny Howard. (151 minutes, 1962)

An American Film Show Production: Offbeat Lockhart owns the Brooklyn Loons baseball team; he dies and leaves the club to his spunky pet feline. Cast includes Ray Milland, Jan Sterling, Gene Lockhart, William Frawley, Elsie Holmes, Taylor Holmes, and Leonard Nimoy. (95 minutes, 1951)
