As technology advances and we upgrade our electronics there is one crucial piece of furniture that we need for the living room or bedroom. These things are TV stands. They are the hub of your home entertainment activity and are there to support your TV and any other equipment that you choose to put with it. Getting proper quality racks and stands is paramount to ensuring the best experience possible.
There are all sorts of TV stands in different styles and materials, from different suppliers and manufacturers, so shopping around for the right one is important. You’ll need a stand that matches the colour of your room and style of decor in your home. Also, you’ll want to make sure that all of the features on your wishlist are catered for. Cheaper models might be flimsy, and made of poor construction materials. As you’d expect, the quality of the stands is usually directly related to how much it costs.
This can be said about all products regardless of industry. The size of your room and your TV should be the two things that you keep in mind when shopping around. Picking out too large of one will dwarf your unit, and take up more space than is necessary. Picking one that is too small will result in an overloaded stand that might not be able to hold up properly.
Once you find the TV stands that fit your room unit size ratio you then need to look at available features. Many of us like to hook sound systems, DVD players, and game systems up to our TV’s. This means that we need adequate shelf space and a lot of room for adequate ventilation. Again the material strength issue comes into question when searching for the right model.
TV stands with weak flimsy materials might not be able to support more than the TV itself. You’ll regret not going for something sturdier if disaster strikes and your precious home entertainment equipment comes crashing down to earth. You’ll want to avoid this as much as possible. The best way to do this is to find a stand made of good quality materials. Most people prefer hardwood, or durable plastic designs for their stands.
Many new age stands use metal support bars with glass shelves. While this is a very aesthetically pleasing design it is also quite fragile. Although it looks lovely when polished, glass takes a lot of regular maintenance and cleaning. On the other hand, these can handle heavy loads. If looked after properly, they will last for a very long time.
One good thing about electronics is that their weight is being reduced with each new generation. Since CRT TV’s have been phased out and LCD panels are now standard the weight of the television has dropped by as much as 50 pounds in some cases. Also, they’re better for smaller homes as they don’t take up such a large footprint. Some are so light they can even be mounted on your wall.
So when looking at TV stands, remember to consider certain aspects.
- What are the properties of the materials that the stand is made from?
- Is it sturdy enough to support my equipment?
- How long is it likely to last?
Asking yourself these questions can save you a bundle in the long run, and ensure you get the product you’re looking for. Now all you have to do is make sure it matches whatever room it’s going in.
